POEM A DAY – May 19

Languid

today gives the word its life
as the heat wraps my bones
in sluggish slack & my spirit
twists in lethargy, it’s a puny
miracle I can make a short
poem between reading
& longing for a screened-in
porch with a creaky daybed
& my 12-year-old self
naming the boys I hope
kiss me by the leechy pond
under a full moon
