POEM A DAY – January 3

Did you see the moon last night? I sure did…Here is today’s poem in its entirety…with an excerpted image below…

The Way It Is Now

last night when I let the dog out to pee
and I listened to C’s voice on speakerphone
as she wept through a heart-opening release

I looked at the moon and she looked at me
her size swallowing the sky
I felt the parts in me quiver, my cells flicker

awake a memory of ascension
I felt her moon-ness reach between my ribs
to palm my heart, stuttering my breath

into a different rhythm
then the dog barked and C laughed and snow
climbed into my slipper, the cold striking me

back onto earth – descending into now
and in this now, me in my white cotton nightgown
sitting at a desk, urging a poem into ink

the clock on the wall persisting the wrong time
I look out the window at the soft white sky and I
feel the moon’s grace holding me

and the dog and C and the snow, and I remember
the now when the moon palmed my heart and
re-rhythmed my breath:

I know it like I know love
the way the moon looks at me
the way I look at her

the way gravity binds me earthen
yet my parts continue to ascend
swallowing the sky

  1. Wow! I totally FEEL this one– moon-ness swallowing the sky, ooooohhh, delicious! Reach between my ribs, to palm my heart, melts me completely. Snow climbed into my slipper, chilly that! The moon’s grace holding me; how divine V! Thank-you for the gift of your poetic words.  xo M
