Today’s poem is inspired by a line in another poem: Through Her Discipline of Kindness by Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer. In December, I sent Rosemerry an email asking her if it would be okay to pull inspiration from her daily poems if the creative need arises. She responded enthusiastically with a ‘yes’! I get a few ‘poem a day’ emails, but Rosemerry’s always hit my heart deeply. She’s been writing a poem a day for years…maybe decades! Be sure to subscribe to her daily poem gifts. Your heart will be grateful! Mine is! Thank you, Rosemerry!
Sharing A Scar
‘She taught me to share scars…’ from ‘Through Her Discipline of Kindness’ by Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer
There’s a small scar
a knick really
thickened skin lifted bright white
on the shadow of my left wrist
precisely where it bends, tucking
into a crease like a playful secret
how it got there is a mystery
and what I mean by that is
I don’t know how it got there
some tiny, unidentified trauma
asserting a home in my body’s landscape
I see it every day
there, above
trust, spirit, peace
in black ink cursive
some kind of lasting wrong without
a knowable beginning
like so many scars, right?

Enjoy your day!
