POEM A DAY – June 27

Insatiable

I’m am albatross wings
energy-harnessing in the kitchen
extracting thousands of calories

for my upcoming blood-letting
my hunger insatiable, my tongue
oscillating between bites: pasta

avocado, apple, chips, cheese
sugar starch protein—the gangs
are snapping and strutting in

cupboards and on stovetops
I can’t stop eating and it’s not
for boredom or even craving

it’s for my ravenous desire to soar
to fill my body with the rapid action
of digestion, to give to this vessel

all that it starved itself
when I looked in the mirror
and hated it. O yes, I am

albatross wings mastering the
art of the glide, using my body
for wise movement and adventure

devouring the journey between
slow and fast where tastebuds
fatten like bellies, and I feel happy

TWO MORE SLEEPS….WEEEEEE!
