POEM A DAY – Sept 8 & Panel Reminder!

HAPPY BACK TO SCHOOL! The memories rushed in…

Elementary Schoolyard

  1. Tag

chasing giancarlo
love in my heart
fear in his eyes
when caught
he denied my kiss
so I kicked him
where the sun
don’t shine
he cried
& I felt a
kindred pain
in my heart
took the
punishment
from the principal

never did that
again, the kicking
but, o, the pain
of young love’s
denial lasts

2. Fun Fair

tables filled
with yard sale
detritus: plates
mugs, purses
shoes, books

fisting sweaty
coins in search
of my next golden
find: a knotty-haired
barbie, a dog-eared

colouring book
a dunking machine
teachers throwing
balls on target
wetting each other

muscles through a
wet t-shirt, nipples
raised in anger
how lonely I felt
alone in this wilderness

3. Eighth Grade Boy

the boy with brown
hair, blue eyes
buck-toothed &
beautiful

the lead in the play
on trend, a sea of
friends gushing
behind him: then

he saw me
the first-grade
narrator, how cute!
scooped me in

his rope-veined
arms, swung me
around & I peed
struggled free

so he would not
feel my shame
on his forearm
hate me forever

SUN. SEPT 13 – SELF-PUBLISHING PANEL YOU DON’T WANT TO MISS!

It’s no secret that self-publishing is here to stay. With many hybrid publishers and print-on-demand sources, plus the monstrosity that is Amazon’s KDPAmazon, and youtube videos to ‘guide’ you through all the processes, how do you know where to begin? How do you know if this is the best choice for you and your story? What sets this panel apart from other workshops/discussions?

What makes our panel about self-publishing unique is directly related to the choices we made to get to the decision to self-publish and our collaboration-driven steps to move on the path to publish with dignity, integrity and heart.

Both Kelly and I created works born of grief. We committed to keeping our choices heart-centred and patient, graceful and thoughtful throughout the entire process. We will talk about our creative processes, the self-publishing journey, the money, the printing, the launches and more!

Please join us and discover a path to publication that is heart-centred and joyful (not unchallenging!), and bring your questions about publishing so we can engage with you and your heart-felt publishing dreams!
