This morning’s session took a different turn. I pulled away from where we began because I couldn’t ignore what was happening in my body. We talked about hugs. And…you know I love me some hugs. So, the poem that came out was not what I expected…but also what I couldn’t ignore. It’s about menstruation, so if that may be something that makes your boat wobble…you may want to read it. 🙂
new moon
the new moon embraced my uterus
this dark morning at 2am
she pushed her dangling fingers
into my lower abdomen and
squeezed
my thick cervix responding
with blood
heavy with the few
remaining eggs this
peri-menopausal body
can create
the new moon in taurus
with venus ruling
she woke me with
her brilliant hands
deep inside my
blood room
awakening
the
shedding
my moan-full response
only made her giggle
open my oven wider
dazzle it with
moonlight
venus left a golden
hairpin to drag across
the let-down passage
a pain-full gift of
enduring love
taurus pounded
hoof prints in
my ovaries
the magic of it all
bewilders and humbles me
is this a rite of witch-hood
when the blood comes
by the new moon?
there is stardust in my womb
it trembles in thanks
I still had some time to write, so I wrote this acrostic poem next:
John, would you please
Open your arms and
Hug me? Let’s meet in my dreams where it’s
Not a cheating space; in case the embrace brings a
Kiss.
Remember we are both in true love
And I have no intention of
Sharing our delights on the
Interweb – though a hug from you could be a
Necessary part of
Some Good News.
Keep me in your dreamscape as
I will keep you in mine…my arms are open.
We were talking about hugs, and I thought who I’d love to hug and John Krasinski burst into my mind. It’s the truth.
Firefly Creative Writing is extending the #morningcoffeesessions to next week, so if this intrigues you at all, please come and join us!
Till then…stay safe. Be kind. Keep writing. Keep reading. Keep hugging.
